Gay And Lesbian Marriages: Should They Be Allowed To Be Married In The Independently Same Way As Heterosexuals?
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Perhaps no other issue in contemporary society strikes a chord of disharmony more than the current debate over gay and lesbian marriages. When one considers the volatile nature of this particular social concern, it is important to understand why such conflict exists and if any common denominators reside between opposition and supporters. In short, the crux of the dispute questions the sanctity of traditional marriage as defined between a man and a woman. Furthermore, the issue of children brought up in such an unconventional family setting has raised great concerns over whether or not such an environment is emotionally stable and or healthy. Gay Discrimination is Wrong
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page research paper/essay that offers a rebuttal to a 1995 essay by Jeff Jordan, a professor of philosophy at the University of Delaware, who argues that, in some circumstances, discrimination against homosexuals is morally and ethically justifiable. Specifically, Jordan argues that it is not only legally permissible but morally permissible, in fact, morally preferable, for the state to maintain prohibitions against same-sex marriage. Close examination of Jordan's argument demonstrates that his position does not hold up under scrutiny. Jordan not only fails to make his argument persuasively, but it suffers under the weight of points that Jordan himself brings up. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Gay Identity
[ send me this paper ]
An 11 page research paper that explores the processes involved in developing a positive gay/lesbian identity. David Leavitt's short story "Territory" describes and suggests a great deal about the problematic nature of relationships that young gays and lesbians have with their families or origin and how this affects their sense of identity. Within the course of Leavitt's narrative, a young man makes the final transition from an insecure adolescent identity toward a more positive fully-adult identity that is inclusive of his sexual orientation. The issues raised by Leavitt provide a rough framework for further discussion about the problems inherent in establishing a sense of an adult-self within the context of alternative sexual orientation. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
