Cultural Development Of Vietnamese Women
[ send me this paper ]
4 pages in length. The topic of this paper is important for many reasons, not the least of which includes the social, economic and gender oppression Vietnamese women have historically experienced with regard to cultural development. One only has to be concerned with equitable treatment for everyone across the globe to have an interest in the way in which Vietnamese women are routinely deprived of their rightful cultural development. The questions this paper seeks to answer involve the extent to which the tenets of patriarchy single-handedly guide every nuance of cultural development for Vietnamese women, or if they maintain any semblance of independence apart from their gender oppressed existence. In his play, Hwang argues that the diplomat projected a Western concept of an idealized femininity that not only represents the "ideal" woman, but the East in general. Therefore, the Chinese spy was able to manipulate the diplomat perfect by playing to his cultural and gender prejudices. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
